Strengthening packaging materials is no longer difficult to "differentiate"

Recently, a new method of recycling reinforced packaging materials was announced in Brazil and began to apply for patents at the end of last year.

Reinforced packaging is formed by layered paper, plastic and aluminum foil. Due to its advantages of durability, corrosion resistance and preservation ability, it is increasingly used for packaging foods and medicines. However, the structural characteristics of this kind of packaging determine that it is very difficult for them to recycle, and they are often landfilled together with garbage.

According to the person in charge of the new method for recycling, they used a special chemical solvent to recover the three components of the package. After the reinforcement bag is soaked in this solvent for two and a half minutes, the plastic, aluminum, and paper in the packaging material will delaminate. The three components are then manually separated and the remaining solvent is removed with high pressure. The three substances can be easily separated and recovered. This solvent will work for any kind of paper, PVC plastics and polyethylene. The researchers also said that this technology is not only suitable for packaging of milk and juice recycling, but also for thinner packaging such as salt, vacuum coffee and eggs.
