Case-based color research in industrial design

Abstract: Based on the case-based idea, this paper analyzes the key technologies of color design based on case-based design by introducing the case-based color design research. This research is applied to the design of industrial products. On this basis, a client-server/server-aided design framework based on internet is constructed, computer-aided on-line modification functions are added, and a professional industrial design system with dynamic interaction capability is developed, thus providing more accurate data for product design and Certain scientific basis.

Color is one of the most critical elements in industrial design and its design experience plays a decisive role. Because the case knowledge contains rich design experience, the case-based design also meets the designer's cognitive process and design thinking habits, so it can play a comprehensive analysis of the subjective and objective color factors.

First, based on case studies of design <br> <br> currently in the field of design thinking has many researchers are exploring the aid of the past design experience, knowledge to solve new problems of design related topics, namely investigate cases knowledge (Case Knowledge, Case-based Reasoning (CBR), and Case-based Design (CBD) are key research topics. Case-based design (CBD) is the basis for reasoning based on problems and solutions. When incidents occur, similarities are used to compare, and past case experiences are used as the direction and solution for problem solving or The past cases will be further amended as a solution to the problem.

The case-based thinking model mainly depends on three association laws: proximity law, similarity law and contrast law. In accordance with the law of proximity, thinking about a thing (instance) can make us think of another thing that once was at the same time or in the same space, for example, from a rose to a lover; the law of similarity is to think of similar instances, such as a telephone. The style is associated with the phone book; and the contrast law refers to the association of something completely different, such as the shape of a pistol from a hair dryer.

Second, the industrial design in color research and methods <br> <br> color as one of the elements of industrial design, human "first sight", plays an important medium to transmit information in the consumer products cognitive process The role, its symbolic role and influence on consumer emotions is much greater than the form and material. The directions and methods of color research in design are mainly divided into two aspects: perceptual color design research and rational color design research.

The study of perceptual-based color design focuses on the relationship between color and its corresponding human behavior. "People-oriented" is the basic concept of design. Therefore, all kinds of information carried by color and the tremendous emotional power that affects human beings bear the heavy responsibility of returning creations from the cold material world to a warm and humanized world. The research on color sensibility and related applications are the core and significance of color design research. Rationality-based color design research is based on the rational exploration of scientists and the engineering research as the main body of color research. The achievements in color engineering provide powerful technical support for color attainability. It enables highly sensitive colors to be subjected to rigorous engineering control by means of quantitative and rational methods, so that they can be introduced into modern interchangeable production methods for processing. It is possible to greatly expand the application of color.

Through research, it is found that simple perceptual color design and simple rational color design have certain limitations. In order to overcome this limitation, designers start from the perceptual perception and psychological effects of color, and use scientific analysis methods to use. The transformability of the color in space, quality and quantity in the existing case, combining the relationship between the various elements of the product in accordance with the laws of color and modeling, creating a beautiful, ideal product color effect, which is also based on the case Color design research.

This article relies on the National High-Technology Research and Development Program ("863") project "Case-based Industrial Design Technology and Auxiliary Design System and Application Study" to use ICAID (Internet based Computer Aided Industrial Design network-based computer-aided industrial design). The color design process of the system is the object of study. Through studying the case color design of the system, the color space of the machine tool product is preliminarily established. Based on this, the color system of the ICAID of the numerical control machine tool is summarized and the color matching system based on the case is improved. Provides effective color reference and assistance, and innovatively implements case-based color design research of CNC machine tools.

The “863” project's color research adopts a case-based design research method. Through systematic knowledge engineers' extraction of 196 color sample cases, it is found that the color elements in industrial design are more diverse and complex than the modeling elements. Therefore, in order to avoid this limitation, 127 color sample cases were made in actual projects from 2002 to 2004. However, after further research on these color cases, we found that these color cases are not comprehensive enough, because many of these cases were designed under certain scenarios or requirements. In order to avoid one-sidedness, we have increased international and 103 domestic machine tool cases (mainly based on the 2003 Beijing International Machine Tool Show). Through the study of the color sampling of these 426 typical cases, the extraction steps of the case were initially achieved. Afterwards, through the adjustment of the color of the individual case and the modification of the overall color sample, the modification of the case was further realized. Finally, through the system knowledge engineer's color summary study of all cases of the system, 126 color samples were summed up, thereby achieving the final case-based case storage. In this system, 426 color cases were extracted, modified, and stored through three steps based on case design. The knowledge of the color design of CNC machine tools was summed up and the 126 cases were finally obtained. color.
