Vikan is committed to embedding sustainability into every aspect of our operations. We believe in responsible resource use and have outlined our efforts in our Progress Reports. Our main goals are to reduce material consumption and lower CO2 emissions.
Materials for Packaging
To optimize material usage, we've set specific targets to minimize the amount of packaging we use and increase the use of recycled and recyclable materials. We've invested in a 'Pack Size Machine' that cuts cardboard boxes to the exact size needed, using FSC-certified cardboard from responsibly managed forests. Previously, we had 10 box sizes, but now we can create custom sizes, reducing both cardboard and void filler usage. This helps us "ship less air," allowing more products per shipment.
In 2023, we introduced recycled plastic bags for our Hygiene product range, containing 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material. This aligns with our commitment to sustainable packaging practices.
We also focus on lowering CO2 emissions, especially through freight transport. Vikan has established regional distribution hubs in Canada, the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand. These hubs allow us to ship larger, fewer shipments by sea instead of air, significantly cutting down on carbon emissions. In 2023, our air freight index dropped to 70.6 compared to 2022, while sea freight remained at 100.4.

Through targeted actions like optimizing packaging and improving logistics, we remain dedicated to reducing our environmental impact while maintaining high-quality standards.
