We hope the answer is yes, because these details are mandatory on every Declaration of Compliance (DoC). It’s crucial to have up-to-date DoCs to avoid issues with regulatory bodies or during audits.
Legal Requirement
A Declaration of Compliance (DoC) is a key legal requirement for any plastic material used in contact with food within the EU.
The purpose of a DoC is to confirm that the product complies with all relevant EU regulations and does not release harmful chemicals when in contact with food. This ensures it's safe for use.
Regulatory authorities and food safety auditors may request to see your DoCs at any time. If they find any non-compliance, your company could face serious consequences.
The Magic Nine
A DoC must include nine essential pieces of information:
- Company issuing the DoC
- Manufacturer's details
- Description of materials used
- Date of declaration
- Compliance with EU regulations (EC) 1935/2004, (EC) 2023/2006, and (EU) 10/2011
- Information on restricted substances
- Details on dual-use additives
- Usage instructions including food type, temperature, and contact time
- Details on functional barriers

FDA Compliance Too
In addition to EU compliance, Vikan products also meet FDA standards under CFR Title 21. This is outlined in the “FDA Compliance†section of our documentation.
It's important to note that while FDA compliance is valuable, it doesn't fully cover EU regulations. In the US, the focus is on the material itself rather than testing the final product.

We’ve created a new format for our DoCs with you, the food producer, in mind. It gives you a clear and easy-to-read overview of the compliance status for each Vikan product designed for food contact.
Food Contact Usage and Types
All the required legal information is included in our DoCs. But we want to highlight the details about food contact usage and types.
This information is critical. If a plastic item is not used as intended—such as incorrect temperature, duration, or food type—it might release harmful chemicals into your food. This could lead to contamination and costly recalls, damaging your brand reputation.
Key Information, Easily Accessible
The DoC shows the recommended usage time and temperature for each product. You can easily find this information, with tick boxes for different food types. A full set of ticks means the product is suitable for all food types.
We provide a DoC for each individual Vikan product, complete with a photo and detailed description. This makes it simple to identify the correct DoC for each item your company uses, and access information about its compliance and food contact usage.
You can always quickly demonstrate compliance during food safety inspections and third-party audits. We ensure all DoCs are up to date so you can confidently present them during audits.
Vikan continuously monitors changes in the (EU) 10/2011 plastics regulations. Each DoC is updated as soon as we confirm compliance with any new amendments. This includes adding new substances or restrictions to Annex I or II if applicable.
