Comparison of resistance performance of heat exchange tubes

The heat transfer performance of air distribution from a domain with uniform air intake is significantly better than that of an air inlet with an expansion angle in a circular area. However, as the inlet expansion angle increases, the fluid distribution becomes more uniform, and the variation in heat transfer efficiency gradually diminishes. In both cases, the number of tubes per row is the same, and the flow velocity at the narrowest cross-section of each row is also equal. For a circular arrangement, the flow resistance is influenced by several factors, including the number of tubes and their placement. However, in a circular tube bundle, the number of tubes in horizontal and vertical rows differs, leading to uneven flow velocities at the narrowest cross-sections. Additionally, the inlet expansion angle plays a significant role, making the overall impact on resistance more complex. The effect of flow velocity and the number of tube rows is particularly difficult to quantify, as there's no clear standard for scaling these parameters. For the tube rows, since the number of tubes varies along the flow direction, each row contributes differently to the total resistance. Even when there are many rows, the pressure drop across each one is closely related to the number of tubes in that specific row. To fairly compare the resistance performance of square and circular areas, the number of heat exchange tubes must be the same in both configurations. Additionally, the diameter, spacing, and length of the tubes should remain consistent. Under these conditions, the influence of the inlet expansion angle on resistance can be evaluated by varying the inlet mass flow rate, allowing for a more accurate comparison of the two designs.
