Maison et Objet 2023: Designer of the Year
Maison et Objet is back! Each edition of the renowned exhibition honors a standout designer with the prestigious "Designer of the Year" award, celebrating their outstanding contributions to the fields of design and decoration. This year, Raphael Navot, based in Paris, has been chosen as the winner for the January 2023 event. Throughout the fair, Navot will present "The Apothem Lounge," an immersive space that aims to evoke emotion through the interplay of light and texture.
Raphael Navot, born in Jerusalem in 1977, studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven before moving to Paris to pursue interior architecture and design. His diverse portfolio includes hospitality interiors, bespoke and commercial product design, all showcasing French craftsmanship and creativity. He has worked on notable projects such as Silencio, a Parisian nightclub with David Lynch, and created furniture collections for Roche Bobois. His work on the Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers in 2017 marked a significant milestone in his career.
Navot's approach emphasizes natural materials, traditional craftsmanship, and timeless aesthetics. He believes in creating spaces that feel as if they have always existed, free from trends or specific periods. His philosophy reflects a deep respect for organic forms and a commitment to quality and authenticity.
In his own words, “I am not sure there is a visual manner that can describe my aesthetics, although all the projects derive from similar values and hopefully establish a uniform style. Natural materials and traditional craft are always present, often bespoke for each project and with certain attributes of organic forms.â€
Through collaborations with brands like Roche Bobois, Navot continues to explore the narrative behind each project, ensuring a deep understanding of their story and values. His work not only inspires but also connects people to the beauty of design and craftsmanship.
