The development prospect of PE stretch film is bright

[China Packaging Network News] PE stretch film has evolved from a single-layer structure to two and three layers, with the cast method now being the most commonly used production technique. This type of film is widely applied in packaging for various products such as wine, canned goods, mineral water, textiles, and other beverages. It offers excellent flexibility, impact resistance, tear strength, and durability. Additionally, it is resistant to moisture, has a high shrinkage rate, and provides a secure, tight wrap around packaged items.

PE stretch film is a transparent thermoplastic material that comes in three main types: LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene), HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene), and LLDPE (Linear Low-Density Polyethylene). Although they all share the same monomer, their synthesis processes differ significantly, leading to distinct physical and mechanical properties. These differences make each type suitable for different applications depending on the required performance characteristics.

Initially, PE stretch film was produced using the blown film method. However, the cast extrusion process has gained popularity due to its advantages such as uniform thickness, high clarity, and suitability for high-performance pre-stretching applications. While single-layer cast films have limitations, such as poor performance on one side, double-layer versions also lack the versatility and cost-effectiveness of three-layer co-extruded structures. Therefore, three-layer co-extrusion remains the preferred choice for optimal performance and material efficiency.

PE stretch film is known for its toughness, making it difficult to process with standard plastic shredders. Its soft yet durable nature makes it resistant to tearing, even under high-speed cutting conditions. In fact, LDPE can melt on the blade if exposed to high temperatures, which is why direct feeding into an extruder is often more effective. The film can be melted and granulated using the shear force generated by the screw, allowing it to be reused for new film production or other applications like tarpaulins, Oxford leather, and non-food packaging. With its versatility and sustainability, PE stretch film continues to show great potential in various industries.
