Superplastic Ceramic Technology Developed Successfully in Japan

The Japanese Institute of Materials and Materials developed a new type of ceramic with superplasticity in May 2003. The new ceramic is a combination of three materials, cobalt, aluminum and spinel, and is fired using ordinary methods. Tests have shown that a 1-cm-thick sheet of material can be elongated by 1 cm at a strain rate of 1 second at a temperature of 1650°C, which is about 100 times that of ordinary ceramics. This new type of ceramic that can be stretched like a metal at high temperatures and can be rolled and forged, can be used to make complex mechanical parts such as engines and turbine parts.
