Hello Doctor,

I work for a company that specializes in creating custom-made stitched products for a wide range of clients. These can vary from small items like clothing to larger, more complex pieces, especially in the field of upholstered furniture. Recently, we were tasked with manufacturing a specialized birthing couch for a maternity hospital. These are unique in design, built specifically for women in labor, and require careful attention to both height and width.

We need to ensure this couch arrives at the client's location in perfect condition. It’s being sent via a secure courier, and while it has some basic protection for the edges and legs, I'm looking for advice on how to fully protect the entire product from external elements such as dust, moisture, and potential damage during transit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks, Scott

Hi Scott,

That sounds like an incredibly interesting and important project. Creating something so specialized must have required a lot of knowledge and precision. I can only imagine how valuable this couch is, both in terms of its function and its cost. It's definitely worth taking extra care with the packaging to not only protect it but also to present it in a professional and high-quality manner.

For large, single items like this, polythene heat shrink film is one of the best options. It offers a sleek, protective layer that gives your product a premium look—perfect for high-value items. The film comes in rolls that are 2.4 meters wide and 75 meters long, giving you plenty of material to cover the entire couch thoroughly. Compared to regular stretch wrap, it's much easier to apply around irregularly shaped objects and provides a more secure, uniform coverage.

You'll also need a heat gun to apply the film effectively. A Ripack heat gun is a great choice—it’s user-friendly and comes with an 8-meter cable, making it easy to move around the couch without any hassle. Just make sure to use even heat distribution to avoid any damage to the fabric or structure of the couch.

Good luck with your delivery, and feel free to reach out if you need further assistance. The Packaging Doctor
