A decade ago, Alterton began his career in the comics industry as a traditional sculptor, working with major brands like Marvel Comics, Transformers, Gears of War, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Over time, he transitioned into digital art, creating pieces for characters such as "Comic Hero vs Kapukong 3" and "The Walking Dead." Recently, he realized that 3D printing was not just a trend, but the future of artistic creation.
Hollywood Collectibles Group (HCG), a renowned statue brand, took notice of his talent and invited him to design a 1:4 scale model for the "Heavy Metals Magazine Cover Girl Series." Heavy Metal is a legendary American comic magazine with nearly 50 years of history, known for its bold and provocative cover art.
To bring these stunning, highly detailed, and sensual cover girls to life, Alterton used ZBrush, a popular 3D modeling software. Once the digital model was complete, he partnered with a 3D printing service called OWNAGE to produce the physical version.
"I had no idea how 3D printers or 3D printing technology worked," Alterton explained. "So I left the entire process to OWNAGE. They handled the files, set up the printing, and managed everything. All I did was create the model."
After the 3D prints were completed, they were sent to HCG for approval and then forwarded to a mold manufacturer for casting. The final step involved skilled painters Jeff Camp and Fred DiSantos, who added the finishing touches, bringing the figures to life with incredible realism and beauty.
The end result is a collection of lifelike, sexy, and breathtaking characters that capture the essence of Heavy Metal's iconic style. This collaboration between Alterton and HCG showcases how 3D printing is reshaping the world of sculpture and collectible art, making it more accessible, efficient, and innovative than ever before.
