Undoubtedly, as a creative tool, 3D printing has made a huge impact on artists who push the boundaries of imagination. For freelance sculptor Alterton Bizarre, this technology opened up an entirely new world of possibilities. A decade ago, he started his career as a traditional sculptor in the comics industry, working with major brands like Marvel Comics, Transformers, Gears of War, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Over time, he transitioned into digital art, contributing to projects such as "Comic Hero vs Kapukong 3" and "The Walking Dead."
Recently, Alterton realized that 3D printing was not just a passing trend but a powerful tool for the future. His insight caught the attention of Hollywood Collectibles Group (HCG), a well-known statue brand. HCG reached out to him to help design a 1:4 scale model for the "Heavy Metals magazine cover girl series." Heavy Metal is a legendary American comic magazine with nearly 50 years of history.
To bring these ultra-detailed and sensual cover girls to life, Alterton used ZBrush, a popular 3D modeling software. Once the models were complete, he partnered with a 3D printing service called OWNAGE to bring them into the physical world. “I don’t have any experience with 3D printers or 3D printing technology,†Alterton explained. “So I leave the printing to OWNAGE. They handle the files and set up the prints. I just focus on modeling.â€
After the 3D prints were finished, they were sent to HCG for review before being passed on to a mold manufacturer. From there, the figures went to renowned painters Jeff Camp and Fred DiSantos for final touch-ups. The end result is a stunning, lifelike representation of the cover girls, capturing both their beauty and allure. This collaboration showcases how 3D printing is transforming the way artists create and bring their visions to life.
