PS beverage bottle performance better than pet bottle

BX3580 grade polystyrene was developed by BASF specifically for these beverage bottles and was launched at the plastics trade fair. The material passes mechanical, sensory and microbiological tests; because it is gas and water vapor permeable, it is suitable for use as a bottle for dairy products such as yogurt and milk. The product can be injection blow molded and injection stretch blow molded with the same equipment as PET. At the same time, BASF has applied for a patent. A German dairy company SCHWALBCHEN AG currently uses a beverage bottle made of BASF's Polystyrene (PS) material. In a joint project, PS was used instead of PE material, and after successful testing and testing on existing irrigation equipment, the product has started mass production. This material is a high-impact polystyrene (PS-I) produced by BASF and can be used for injection stretch blow molding. Compared to PET, PS has a density advantage, which means that the plastic needed to produce such bottles can be reduced by about 20%. This also means a 20% reduction in the amount of packaging material that needs to be handled. PS is mainly used for food films and yogurt cups so far.
