In the early 1990s, the use of magnetic cards and IC cards was not widespread in China. Printing and making cards were mostly carried out in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and other places. Therefore, the price of card making at that time was relatively high. Today, 10 years later, magnetic cards, contact IC cards, and RF cards have been widely used in our lives: such as IC phone booths everywhere on the street, ATMs that are open 24 hours, and shopping cards in shopping malls and supermarkets. . Now, in accordance with the development requirements of the national information industry, the "Three Gold Project" represented by the urban public transport card project, civil social security card project, and financial card card has been promoted and used in Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian and other cities. Over time, The number of one-card cards issued will increase exponentially.

According to the current situation of city card issuance in Shanghai: Due to the limitation of use conditions, the transportation card is generally a non-contact RF card. The card does not need to be in contact with the card reader when it is used. Just place the card in the card reader. From 5 to 10 cm, automatic settlement and data processing can be realized. At present, the card and system functions of the All-in-One Card have been improved day by day, but the high manufacturing cost of the card body has hindered the promotion of the card to a certain extent. One of the main reasons for the high cost of the card body is the cost of the card chip; the other reason is the high scrap rate during card printing. At present, there are roughly two printing methods for RF cards in the industry: pre-card printing and post-card printing. Now these two printing methods will be briefly introduced.

1. Print before card

The printing process is arranged before the chip and antenna packaging.

This printing method is usually full-page printing, that is, the number of cards on the printed layer is equal to the number of inlay chip layouts. The material of the printed layer is PVC or PET. After printing, it is laminated and punched into a card. This printing method can cover the printing layer with a protective film, so that the color photo can be printed directly on the card surface; it can also be directly coated with protective varnish after printing to prevent the card surface pattern from being worn.

In general, the thickness of the radio frequency card is required to be controlled between 0.80mm and 0.84mm, so the material thickness of the printed layer is generally between 0.12mm and 0.15mm. During the typesetting, the punching alignment cursor needs to be placed. The accuracy of the position of the cursor printing will directly affect the punching precision of the card. If the deviation is too large, the coil will be cut off, resulting in scrapping.

The material of the printing layer is usually PVC or PET. These materials cannot be dried by absorbing ink. We use UV ink (ultraviolet light solid ink) for printing. UV ink can be dried within 0.5 seconds through ultraviolet light, so the printing speed can reach 6000 sheets / hour or more. When using UV light drying, attention must be paid to the matching of light time and printing speed. Because the printed material is thin, the light is heated for too long (more than 2 seconds), the material will shrink and deform, and the distance between the card and the card will change. The deviation causes the coil to be cut off and scrapped; otherwise, the lack of light time will cause the ink to dry incompletely, and the ink will be wiped off after lightly rubbing, causing damage to the screen or causing material adhesion. The full-page printing has high requirements on the printing quality, because the cost of the chip of the radio frequency card is high (the market price is several yuan to several tens of yuan). If there are 1 to 2 scrap cards in the printed layer of the full-page printing, the loss of the chip will be huge In general, the loss of scrapped full-page printing layer is less than the loss of a chip, so the waste card rate of the printing layer (including color difference, color spots, stains, etc.) must be controlled within 3%. However, for ordinary offset printing, this is difficult to achieve. This leads to a new printing method-printing after card formation (single card printing).

2. Printing after the card is formed

The printing process is arranged after the chip packaging.

Post-card printing is printing on a single card that has a chip coil placed in it. This is one of the most advanced printing methods. The single-card printing equipment currently used in China is mostly waterless single-card offset presses from Germany and Japan. It is different from the commonly used offset presses. It uses a special resin plate and does not use fountain solution in the printing process, so it does not exist. The water-ink imbalance interferes with the quality of the printed matter, it can control the range of color difference better, and the color consistency of the printed matter is better. The RF card is printed on the waterless single-card offset press, and the qualified rate of finished products can be controlled within 3%. For card manufacturers, the loss of chips can be greatly reduced and the manufacturing cost can be reduced.

However, the one-time investment of single-card printing equipment is relatively large, and its printed products are limited to single-card printing. The utilization rate of the equipment is relatively low; single-card printing has high requirements on the environment of the workshop, indoor temperature, humidity, and cleanliness. Degree is an important factor that affects the quality; the surface roughness and surface tension of the card body will affect the inking and the integrity of the dot, and the processing requirements on the surface of the card body are high; in addition, if the card body is uneven, it will cause the device to eject the card Poor or stuck cards. For the printing of cards with post-processing (such as color photos, sublimation printing, etc.), special processes must be added during printing to meet the requirements of post-processing.

The cost of single-card printing is higher than that of full-page printing. However, due to the increase in printing yield and the decrease in the scrap rate caused by deviations in the punching position, the total card manufacturing cost will be greatly reduced.

In short, the selection of the RF card printing method needs to be considered in combination with the number of cards, post-processing requirements, suppliers, production methods and other conditions to find the best solution.
