At present, China's annual output of plastic products has exceeded 15 million tons, ranking third in the world (the United States only), but China’s per capita consumption is only 13 kg/year, compared with the per capita consumption of 100 kg in developed countries, the difference is also It is very large, which shows that the potential of China's plastic products is still very large, and we have to work hard to develop.
To think of the long-term development of China's plastics industry, we believe that we must first solve the difficulties that currently hinder the development of the plastics industry:
The first is the difficulty of the product structure being irrational and the low product added value. At present, there is a serious excess of production capacity of low-grade products in China, and insufficient production and development of high-grade products. From the past two years, about 30-40% of the country's production capacity has been idle. Plastic woven bags, daily plastic products, ordinary plastic films, hollow products and other low value-added products have dominated.
The second is the difficulty of small and scattered enterprises and low management levels. The processing scale of domestic enterprises is only a few thousand tons, and the developed countries are generally tens of thousands of tons to more than 100,000 tons. In addition to the large number of township and village enterprises and the non-standard management, the general raw material consumption is high, the energy consumption is high, and the economic efficiency is not good.
The third is the contradiction between the supply and demand of raw materials and the difficulty of meeting the needs of users. In China, 40-50% of plastic resins rely on imports, and new materials used for engineering plastics are almost entirely dependent on imports, which restricts the development of the plastics industry.
The fourth is the difficulty of poor product quality, low grade, and few varieties. For example, the lifespan of the agricultural film abroad is generally 2-3 years, but in China it is generally one year, and the uniform thickness is generally poor. Many functional films cannot be produced in China.
Fifth, the difficulty in the backwardness of the level of manufacturing of plastics industry machinery. Compared with developed countries, plastic machinery, especially in the completeness of the control systems and devices, has large gaps, and some large-scale sealing equipment and high-grade molds need to be imported.
The author believes that to solve the above five problems, first of all, state-owned large-scale plastics production enterprises should withdraw from low-value-added products with low value-added inputs, adopt the kind of hard-line oppression in the textile industry, and solve the problem of excess production capacity. Reorganize large-scale plastics groups to form serialized, large-scale and specialized products, and use limited production of raw materials, high energy consumption, and poor economic returns of products and production companies to ease the contradiction between supply and demand for raw materials.
