World's largest recycled paper

Students from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore created five-meter-long recycled paper and successfully broke the Guinness world record of the world's largest recycled paper to promote environmental awareness.

The old record of the world’s largest recycled paper was created by the National University of Singapore Students’ Union in July of the previous year. The recycled paper they produced was 4.85 meters in length and 3.4 meters in width.

NTU Rotary Club hopes that this event will increase people's awareness of environmental protection. Because the paper industry has developed over the years, wood raw materials now account for more than 90% of all plant fiber raw materials. The current global forest area has decreased by two-thirds compared with two hundred years ago and is disappearing at a rate of 11 hectares per minute.

They encourage people to use recycled paper, use less wood when making paper, and cut less forests.

The process of making this recycled paper made by a student member of NARI Rotary Club is not simple. It first shreds waste paper by 65 students, soaks it in warm water overnight, puts the shredded paper into a blender, and stirs it with water. Afterwards, the pulp is laid on a small mesh-shaped frame, and the pulp is dried, and the paper is put together into giant recycled paper. The whole process was complicated and laborious. It took ten and a half hours to complete.

Among them, the process of shredding waste paper with human power is the most laborious. After tearing the paper, many students felt pain in their fingers.

This recycled paper, which created a world record, may have been placed in the National Museum of Singapore. Students have also left their colors on paper.
